A tragic accident occurred in Jabalpur on Thursday after a sudden storm caused a cruise operating in the Bargi Dam on the Narmada River to capsize. Around 31 people were on board at the time of the incident.
According to officials, four people have lost their lives, 15 have been rescued, and search operations are underway to trace the remaining 12 missing passengers.
Jabalpur Collector Raghvendra Singh confirmed that rescue teams are continuing efforts at the site. The cruise, operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation, reportedly lost balance due to strong winds and rough water conditions triggered by the sudden storm in the evening.
Reacting to the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that rescue operations are ongoing and senior officials, including ministers and administrative officers, have been directed to reach the spot. He added that 15 people have been safely rescued and efforts are being intensified to locate those still missing. The state government, he said, stands firmly with the affected families and is ensuring all necessary assistance.
Former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh termed the incident deeply distressing and expressed condolences to the victims. He urged the administration to expedite rescue efforts, ensure the safe recovery of those missing, and initiate a magistrate-level inquiry into the incident, along with action against the contractor operating the cruise.
