Former India batter Ambati Rayudu lands new role within Hyderabad Cricket Association

Former Chennai Super Kings and India batter Ambati Rayudu has been announced as the new Head of Cricketing Operations at the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), the team for which he made his First-Class debut all the way back in 2001.

According to reports, Rayudu has joined HCA on a three-year term with firm efforts on bringing in transparency and structural overhaul, whilst making sure there is fairness in selection across all age groups. The 40-year-old will be looking to produce better cricketers from the city to bring glory back to the once domestic powerhouse.

“I am very happy to announce that I have been appointed as the Head of cricketing operations for HCA. by Justice P Naveen Rao (SMC) , M Jeevan Reddy (Secretary HCA) and the apex council. It is a great opportunity to clean up a few things but I am more excited to see the immense cricketing talent in Hyderabad and Telangana flourish and produce more players to represent the country,” Rayudu revealed on X (formerly Twitter).

Rayudu has made it extremely clear that he wants to keep cricket and the administration side of things separate and not intertwine with one another. This is the only way to show growth, both on and off the field.

“I’m a firm believer that cricket should be separated from administration and all the other related matters. Cricket should be run with players being the priority, and my job is to look after players’ welfare and make Hyderabad a powerhouse of domestic cricket,” Rayudu said as quoted on Sportstar.

“A player contract system, like what the Mumbai Cricket Association recently announced, is in the pipeline. We will modernise and professionalise our cricketing operations, which will be automated to avoid human interference,” he added

Rayudu had multiple stints representing Hyderabad at the domestic level. He ended his First-Class career in 2017, where he shifted his focus to white-ball cricket. The right-handed batter also represented India 61 times, including winning 55 ODI caps.
