IPL 2026, Match 46: Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings Reactions and Quotes

The Gujarat Titans beat the Punjab Kings by four wickets in Match 46 of the 2026 Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Put into bat first, the Punjab Kings were rattled early with Mohammed Siraj dismissing both Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly off successive deliveries in the first over of the innings. They failed to recover from the early blow, finishing the powerplay on a score of 35/3.

They were rattled with two more wickets before Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge put on a 79-run stand for the sixth wicket. Shedge scored 57 off 29 balls, his maiden half-century in the IPL, while Marcus Stoinis scored 40 off 31 balls, which took the Punjab Kings to 163/9. Sai Sudharsan scored 57 off 41 balls, his third 50-plus score in four matches, but the Punjab Kings kept pulling things back with wickets, taking the chase to the final over.

1) Punjab Kings’ rare top-order failure

The Punjab Kings were rattled early in the match, finishing their powerplay on 35/3. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly in the first over, a massive blow that the Kings were unable to recover from. Prabhsimran Singh then fell to Kagiso Rabada, as the Kings finished the powerplay three down. With the top order having done the heavy lifting for the Kings all season, they were unable to regain momentum after the early blows.

2) Have Gujarat struck a lucky chord with Jason Holder?

With seven wickets in four matches, Jason Holder has been one of the best players for the Titans in their recent winning run. He came into the team for the New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, who has had a poor run in the season. Holder has added flexibility to the Titans’ bowling attack, with his ability to bowl in the middle and death overs. His hard length bowling has seen him pick up wickets in the later phases of games. He also adds impetus with the bat, something the Titans have been missing in the back end of innings. He was the pick of the bowlers for the Titans, finishing with match figures of 4/24 from his four overs, his best figures in IPL.

3) Suryansh Shedge arrives in the IPL

Suryansh Shedge was signed by the Punjab Kings in the 2025 Mega Auction for his base price of INR 30 lakhs. He had come up in the domestic circuit for Mumbai as a reliable and dangerous finisher, who could hit big sixes and take games away from the opposition at will. He finally made his mark in the IPL with a brilliant half-century, an innings which took the Kings to 163 after their early collapse. His 57 came off just 29 balls, and included five huge maximums along with three fours. Washington Sundar held his nerve to take the Titans home with one ball to spare, finishing unbeaten on 40 off 23 balls to hand the Kings their second loss of the season.

4) Sai Sudharsan finds form in crunch time

Sai Sudharsan had a slow start to the season, but in the last four games for the Titans, he has two fifties and one century. He scored his first hundred of the season in Bengaluru, which was followed up by a masterful 87 in Chennai. He scored a well-made 57 off 41 balls, setting the platform for the Titans in the chase.

“I personally feel it was a great score on a wicket which was doing a bit. Their bowlers made the best use of the surface. We lost four wickets I assume in the powerplay. To get to 160 from there was a phenomenal effort. With the new ball I thought we would be able to hit our line and length and get wickets. But that didn’t work out. We missed out on hitting the hard lengths. Hitting over midwicket or pull shot wasn’t easy on this wicket because there was variable bounce. Wasn’t an apt wicket to bat on. We’re still on top of the table which is what matters. It’s a great challenge going forward in the IPL because it tends to bring up the attitude of the bowlers as well. We wanted to win but it didn’t click. Excited for the opportunity, want to get that two points. Have been working very hard in training. If the character is high and attitude is right, you’ll get results eventually.”

“I think in chases like these, we would have liked to not take it as deep as it went but two crucial points. This is not the kind of wicket where we’ll chase in 15-16 overs. So we thought maybe one over before or a couple of overs before. That was the talk. If someone is set they should go deep because it’s not easy to hit from ball 1. Length balls weren’t coming as we play on other wickets. It was important for the batsman who is set.. luckily we had Washi and he finished the game for us. Just sent the best batter that we thought in that situation (about sending left-handers one after the other).”

“Credit to both Siraj and KG. Their efforts have been outstanding. Makes my job easier, coming in the middle. Having said that, still need to come and execute. Main thing is to keep pressure on. Ensure you make it difficult for them to score. Talked long in dressing room. I mean, last year and half, only played T20 cricket. Would still love to play Test cricket, but able to focus on T20 cricket. Ensures I’m ready for all situations. For me, executing when called upon. Disappointed not able to finish last two games. But keeping fresh mind, staying positive, execute when called upon. Try to make an impact, best as I can under pressure.”
