Shree Charani matches record of taking most wickets for India in a Women’s T20 World Cup Edition

Shree Charani has been very impressive in international cricket since making her debut in April 2025. During the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, the left-arm spinner has been taking wickets for fun. The marquee event is being held in the United Kingdom, where pitches are not very favourable for spinners. However, Charani has showcased her skills to good effect and bamboozled some of the top batters in world cricket.

India started their campaign with comprehensive wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands. However, on Sunday, June 21, they lost to South Africa. Chasing a 159-run target, the Proteas were in trouble at 25/2 in six overs. However, Marizanne Kapp’s blistering knock of 81 off 45 balls helped South Africa romp home with six wickets and five balls to spare.

However, Charani bowled her heart out, picking up the important wickets of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen, and Nadine de Klerk. The 21-year-old finished with excellent figures of 3/24 in four overs, a spell that included a maiden.

While Wolvaardt was out caught and bowled, Dercksen and de Klerk were castled by the youngster from Andhra Pradesh.

The wicket of Nadine de Klerk helped Charani take her tally to 10 wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. She has now equalled the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian cricketer in a single edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
