ICC reveals nominations for June’s Player of the Month

India captain Shubman Gill, Bangladesh all-rounder Mossadek Hossain and New Zealand seamer Nathan Smith have been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June, while Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce, India spinner Sree Charani and England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge have been shortlisted for the women’s award.

Gill’s consistent performances in home Tests and ODIs against Afghanistan help him make the cut while Mossadek made it for his performances with bat and ball in a home ODI series victory over Australia and Smith for his contributions in a Test series win in England.

Bryce’s consistent performances across a home series against Bangladesh and the subsequent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup have helped her being shortlisted. Sree Charani and Wyatt-Hodge made it on the dint of their performances in the World Cup.

MEN’S SHORTLIST

Shubman Gill (India)

Gill struck 126 in an innings victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test in New Chandigarh and accumulated 238 runs in three ODIs at a strike rate of 135.22 in the subsequent white-ball series. He had scores of 84 not out and 154 in the first two matches and did not get to bat in the third as India won that match by nine wickets in Chennai to clinch the series 3-0. He was named the Player of the Series.

Mossadek Hossain (Bangladesh)

Mossadek was the Player of the Series as Bangladesh defeated Australia 2-1 at home. The 30-year-old accumulated 157 runs in the three matches at a strike-rate of 116.29 and bagged two wickets with his off-spin bowling. Both his scalps came in the first ODI in Dhaka in which he was named Player of the Match, also scoring an unbeaten 86 off 70 deliveries.


Nathan Smith (New Zealand)

The 27-year-old seam bowler finished as the leading wicket-taker of the series as New Zealand defeated England 2-1. He grabbed 16 wickets at an average of 23.00 which included a haul of six for 70 in the second innings of the first Test at Lord’s in which he finished with nine wickets. He was named the Player of the Series.


WOMEN’S SHORTLIST

Kathryn Bryce (Scotland)

Bryce was in supreme touch with both bat and ball in the month of June as she warmed up for the T20 World Cup in a home series win against Bangladesh. In seven T20Is during the period, she scored 178 runs at a strike-rate of 140.15 and grabbed 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.10.


Sree Charani (India)

The 21-year-old left-arm spinner finished the group stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker boasting figures of three for 21 against Pakistan, four for 19 against the Netherlands and three for 24 against South Africa. She finished with 14 wickets in six T20Is at an economy rate of 6.69.


Danni Wyatt-Hodge (England)

The England opener had some notable performances as her team made the final of the T20 World Cup. She entered the knockouts as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, which included an unbeaten 105 against Sri Lanka and a knock of 89 against defending champions New Zealand.
