‘Have big shoes to fill’ – Harsh Dubey, Manav Suthar advised amid transition in Indian cricket

Indian cricket is in full transition mode with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja nearing the end of their legendary careers. The trio has been an integral part of Indian cricket for the majority of the last two decades, but things are not the same anymore with the Indian team wanting to build the future prospects.

Acknowledging the ongoing transition phase in the Indian team, the newly appointed spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule shed some light, believing that the new generation of spin bowlers are getting ready for the international stage. Harsh Dubey recently made his international debut in the first ODI between India and Afghanistan, while Manav Suthar impressed with a six-for on his Test debut.

“This is a transition time for spinners. I feel Harsh and other youngsters who are coming in and have been given chances, will realise that they have big shoes to fill. They have the capabilities, they have the potential but I think the more they will play, the more they will settle down. Harsh is a player who definitely has that potential and can be a good all-rounder,” Bahutule said as quoted by Indian Express.

Harsh had a great outing at Dharamsala on his debut, picking up three wickets. Acknowledging that, Bahutule further added that the left-arm spinner will improve with time and has got all the skills to succeed at the international stage.

“He (Dubey) is a player for the future. He has got the skills, he has got a good temperament and has proved it not only in domestic cricket, but that one game which he got last time, he came back very strongly and did very well. So moving ahead, I am sure the more he plays, the more experience he gets and definitely he will enhance his skill,” Bahutule added.

On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja was not included in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan, and his future in ODI cricket is in doubt. Bahutule further paid his tribute to Jadeja’s immense contribution to Indian cricket. 

“Jadeja is very experienced, the way he has performed and the way he has contributed towards Indian cricket is phenomenal with the bat and the ball,” he concluded.

The second ODI of the ongoing three-match series is scheduled to be played on June 17 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
