What is India’s record vs England in T20 WC semi-finals?

After an emphatic win against West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 1, India have qualified for the semifinals. The co-hosts, barring a Super Eights loss to South Africa, have been sensational throughout the tournament. 

Now, they will be facing off England in a heavyweight semifinal bout at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on March 5.

England, led-by Harry Brook, sealed their semifinals spot from Group 2 with some incredible team performance, winning all of their three Super Eight matches. 

India and England, one of cricket’s oldest rivalries will add one more chapter with this clash. But, this is not the first time they are going toe-to-toe against each other. So, let us take a look at India’s record versus England in the T20 WC semi-finals.

2. ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Semifinal 2

The two sides first met at the semifinal stage of the T20 World Cup in 2022 in Australia. After opting to bowl first, England produced a fine bowling performance to restrict a strong Indian batting line-up to 168 for 6 in their 20 overs. After a dismal show by the openers, Virat Kohli gave the Men in Blue a much needed boost with a fifty. But it was Hardik Pandya who gave India’s innings a push with a scintillating knock of 63 in just 33 balls. For the England side, Chris Jordan took three wickets.

What followed was a modern day disaster for the Indian cricket team as they had to endure one of the most humiliating losses in their cricket history. England openers were on song, as Alex Hales and Jos Buttler chased down the target with four overs and ten wickets to spare. After this loss, captain Rohit Sharma famously said to Dinesh Karthik about needing to change the way Indian team plays its cricket.

1. ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Semifinal 2

In 2024, it was India’s time to return the favour to the English side. The two teams once again came face-to-face in the semifinal clash of the T20 World Cup. After being invited to bat first, the Indian team posted a respectable total of 171 in their 20 overs on a tricky Guyana pitch. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a stunning 57-run knock in just 39 deliveries, while Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 36 balls), and Hardik Pandya (23 off 13 balls) gave the team a much-needed boost.

In reply, the Indian bowlers produced a masterclass with the ball, as they blew away the English line-up on a tricky surface, bundling them out for just 103 in 16.4 overs. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each, whereas Jasprit Bumrah picked two. India completed a 68-run victory and eventually went on to pick their second T20 World Cup after beating South Africa in the summit clash later.
