Former Pakistan captain and 1992 World Cup hero Imran Khan has drawn heartfelt concern from across the cricket fraternity, especially from his fellow Pakistan cricketers after reports emerged that he has lost most of the vision in his right eye while in custody.

The 73-year-old, who is serving multiple sentences in prison, has reportedly been suffering from a severe eye condition that his legal team says has left him with only a fraction of usable sight, while blaming the negligence of the Government.

Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram, whose talent was famously picked up by Imran, took to X to urge authorities to ensure his former skipper receives the medical care he needs.

“It is heartbreaking to hear our skipper Imran Khan going through health issues. I sincerely hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he receives the best possible medical care. Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health,” Wasim Akram said on X, formerly Twitter.

Akram cited his deep respect for the former Pakistan all-rounder and leader, saying the reports of deteriorating health are deeply upsetting for him.

Fellow pace great Waqar Younis also set aside politics in his appeal, calling Pakistan’s former PM a national hero for bringing Pakistan its greatest glory on the field and establishing a cancer hospital that helped countless patients. He urged authorities to ensure timely and appropriate treatment.

“Putting politics aside, our national hero who gave us our greatest glory on the sporting field, a cancer hospital [which] helped so many, including my own mother, is suffering a health emergency and requires urgent treatment. I humbly request the related authorities he gets the appropriate treatment in a timely manner. Get well soon skipper,” wrote Waqar on this same platform.

The demand for treatment was echoed by other former stars, including Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, who stressed that access to medical care is a fundamental right and expressed heartfelt wishes for Khan’s recovery and well-being.

Imran Khan remains one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever seen. In his legendary career, playing 88 tests and 175 tests for Pakistan. He remains one of only eight cricketers to achieve both 3000+ runs and 300+ wickets mark in Test matches.
