T20 World Cup 2026: Rohit Sharma meets team India ahead of high-voltage clash against Pakistan in Colombo

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is serving as the brand ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, met the Indian team ahead of their high-voltage clash against Pakistan national cricket team on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

Rohit had previously led India to glory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where they lifted the trophy for the second time in history. With both India and Pakistan unbeaten in the tournament so far, the upcoming encounter is crucial for both sides.

The legendary batter interacted with the players in the dugout shortly before the match, sharing his experience and motivating them to deliver their best performance. A victory in this marquee clash would strengthen India’s chances of qualifying for the Super Eight stage.

India began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with an impressive victory over the United States and carried that momentum forward with another win against Namibia in New Delhi. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India currently sit atop Group A in the points table. Pakistan have also remained unbeaten in their two group-stage matches so far. They registered a narrow win over Netherlands before delivering a clinical performance against the United States.

Speaking about Rohit, he led India to T20 World Cup glory in 2024 and was part of a memorable low-scoring thriller against Pakistan in that tournament. In that match, Pakistan elected to field first after winning the toss and produced a disciplined bowling display to bundle India out for 119. While most Indian batters fell cheaply, Rishabh Pant stood firm with a fighting 42 off 31 balls.

Pakistan’s chase began steadily, with Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam guiding the team to 26 without loss. Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthrough by dismissing Babar for 13. Despite losing Usman Khan and Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan were well placed at 80 for 3, needing 40 runs from 36 balls with seven wickets in hand.

The turning point came in the 15th over when Bumrah clean-bowled the well-set Rizwan with a delivery that stayed low and deceived the batter. That wicket triggered a dramatic collapse, as Pakistan lost their remaining wickets for just 33 runs. Bumrah finished with outstanding figures of 3/14, and Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 113.
