Rafael Nadal: ‘I don’t make unilateral decisions’

Casper Ruud admitted that playing against Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros and against Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals is undoubtedly one of the most difficult challenges a player can face. In late May and early June, the talented Norwegian reached his first Grand Slam final at the French Open, where he lost to Nadal 6-3 6-0.

Last week, however, Ruud achieved another big result with his first final at the Nitto ATP Finals. In the last act in Turin, Ruud was defeated by Djokovic, who prevailed 7-5, 6-3 to clinch his sixth ATP Finals title. Losing to Nadal and Djokovic in these two finals was not easy for the 23-year-old from Bærum, but he is aware of the experience he will gather to come back even more motivated in 2023.

“This year I’ve had a lot of experience losing these finals,” Casper Ruud said, according to Sportskeeda. “This will try to motivate me to win them, if I do it again. If you look at the opponents I faced, it was tough.

It must be said that Rafa at Roland Garros and Novak here [in Turin] are probably the most difficult challenges we have. I don’t feel guilty for not being able to beat them. It gives me motivation and desire for the next time, as I said, if I reach another final like these, I hope I can learn from what I have done this year and what I have not done and see how it goes.”

Furthermore, Ruud explained how Nadal and Djokovic just know how to win when it matters most. “I think these two players, Novak and Rafa, are exceptional, obviously. They have the ability to step up when necessary, which I don’t have.”

Nadal won his first match as a father

Rafael Nadal recently spoke about his new experiences as a father, which have already taught him a lot about parenthood. “More tired, sleeping less,” Nadal said. “It’s one more concern in your life.

Living it naturally, I’m neither more nor less than any father. With happiness. Trying to make the most of the moments I can be with him. For me is not work, is practice. Just practice, try to make the right plan to be able to stay healthy enough and to stay ready for the beginning of the next season.

How early? I can’t tell you yet because, as you can imagine now, my life changed a little bit. I don’t make unilateral decisions. I need to check a little bit,” Nadal said in a press conference after the match against Ruud.
