The first-ever auction in Men’s Hundred is being held at Piccadilly Lights, a venue in Central London, on Thursday, March 12. Rauf, who had a base price of 100,000 pounds, was the first Pakistani player to go under the hammer in the first round of the auction. However, there was silence across the tables, with no franchise seemingly interested in acquiring his services.
Later, Pakistan’s spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan also went unsold. The experienced campaigner had a disappointing outing with bat and ball for the Men in Green in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup. Shadab also had the same base price as Rauf.
Rauf has played 264 T20s so far, picking up 361 wickets at an average of 21.93 and a strike rate of 15.50. His economy rate is 8.43. On the other hand, Shadab has played 342 T20s, scoring 3723 runs at an average of 19.09 and taking 368 wickets at an economy rate of 7.60.
Usman Tariq joins Birmingham Phoenix
Pakistan’s mystery spinner Usman Tariq, whose performance was one of the rare silver linings for Pakistan from their T20 World Cup campaign, was roped in by the Birmingham Phoenix for 140,000 pounds. Trent Rockets were the other team bidding for him in the auction, but in the end, the Edgbaston-based side acquired his services.
Tariq finished as the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan at the 2026 T20 World Cup. In five games, he bagged 10 wickets at an average of 14.10. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to bowling on surfaces in the United Kingdom. He won’t get the same amount of help he got while bowling in Sri Lanka in the aforementioned ICC event.
