EXCLUSIVE | US Wanted Ceasefire, Says Iran Supreme Leader’s Representative; Warns Truce May Not

India-based representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Dr Abdul Majeed Hakim Elahi, on Wednesday said the United States itself pushed for the ceasefire with Iran, asserting that Washington realised it could not decisively win the conflict.

Speaking in Delhi, Elahi said that while the US may be capable of inflicting damage, it cannot defeat Iran. “They can harm Iran, but this Iran is different. It cannot be defeated,” he said.

Accuses US, Israel of Ignoring Human Rights

Elahi sharply criticised both the United States and Israel, alleging that they show little regard for human rights. He accused them of targeting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and homes.

Referring to a past incident, he claimed that an Israeli strike on a school had resulted in the deaths of 160 children, drawing widespread condemnation.

He also criticised Israel’s continued actions in Lebanon and took aim at US President Donald Trump, suggesting that the push for a ceasefire came only after it became clear that the war could not be concluded swiftly.

Warns Ceasefire Could Collapse

Despite the current pause in hostilities, Elahi expressed scepticism over the durability of the agreement. He warned that both sides could resume attacks, indicating that the ceasefire remains fragile.

“The US itself wanted the ceasefire,” he reiterated, adding that the situation could escalate again if tensions are not carefully managed.
