Labourer Was Intoxicated: Police
According to Delhi Police, two labourers were together and had consumed alcohol earlier in the day. Police said the drain belongs to the Delhi Development Authority and its cover was left open. An FIR is being registered against unknown persons for negligence, officials added.
Incident Rekindles Janakpuri Case
The incident has once again drawn attention to a recent tragedy in Janakpuri, where a man named Kamal died on February 6 after falling into an open pit linked to the Delhi Jal Board.
In that case, Dwarka Court granted interim protection from arrest to contractor Himanshu Gupta, staying coercive action against him till February 18. Delhi Police had issued a notice to Gupta to join the investigation on February 9, but he did not appear, citing illness. He is now expected to present himself before the concerned police station at 10 am tomorrow to join the probe.
Police said investigations are ongoing in both cases, with a focus on fixing accountability for open and uncovered drains and pits across the city.
