Ajinkya Rahane urges Gautam Gambhir to ‘stay away from Social Media’ and focus on T20 World Cup

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has offered some advice to Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, urging him to stay away from social media and what people are saying, and to concentrate solely on preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Rahane’s comments have come after Gambhir’s recent social media post, in which he indirectly responded to remarks about the authority of his coaching role, sparking significant online reactions and discussions across platforms. Rather than engaging with the noise, Rahane believes the coach should prioritise his core responsibilities with the national side. 

The Mumbai batter stressed the importance of focusing on the team and avoiding distractions ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. 

“My only response to this is that GG should probably stay away from social media. Probably not think too much about what people are saying about him or telling him. He played his cricket in a great manner, and now he’s coaching Team India, which is a very responsible job,” Rahane said on Cricbuzz.

He didn’t stop there, emphasising that Gambhir’s attention should remain on the task at hand, guiding India’s World Cup campaign.

“He should stay away from social media and focus on the team. That’s my personal opinion. Let’s just focus on the main thing, stay away from social media till the World Cup is over,” he added.

The 37-year-old also shared his remarks on Bangladesh’s insistence to skip the matches in India due to security reasons. He expressed his surprise at this whole saga. 

“I am firstly surprised to see these security concerns. India is the safest place; we keep the protocols here. The hospitality in India, we all know. The security people and police force in India are very proactive. I feel India is one of the safest places to play cricket,” he said.

The ICC has made it official that Scotland will replace the Bangla Tigers in the marquee event, scheduled to start on February 7.
