Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the finals of the 2026 Pakistan Super League will be played in front of fans at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Naqvi, who is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, has confirmed that the Prime Minister of the country has approved the move.
“I requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators in the stadiums. While he was also inclined to permit fans, he emphasised that austerity measures are currently in place across Pakistan, with efforts underway to minimise fuel consumption. However, on the request of franchise owners, he has graciously approved the presence of fans for the PSL 11 Final. I sincerely thank him for this decision and for facilitating the fans,” Naqvi said, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
The final of the 2026 Pakistan Super League, scheduled for May 3, will be the first game of the season to be played with spectators in attendance. The tournament was played behind closed doors due to fuel and energy-saving measures in the country amid the ongoing West Asian crisis affecting the supply of fuel and energy resources to the subcontinent.
Naqvi had announced on March 22 that the tournament would be played behind closed doors, with matches to be held at just two venues – Lahore and Karachi, instead of the planned six. He left open the possibility of the fans returning, but that also included much uncertainty, as it depended on the culmination of the conflict in West Asia.
A month since the start of the tournament, there is no change in that call. Games are being played with just a small number of people in attendance, which includes special guests and sponsorship-related attendees. ESPNCricinfo further reported that there has been much hubbub about the return of fans for the remaining games, with most requests coming from franchise owners.
The PCB have not yet released details on how tickets for the match will be sold.
