On Tuesday, April 07, experienced Australian cricketer David Warner was charged by the New South Wales Police with a drink-driving charge. The cricketer was later arrested and has been summoned by the law enforcement authorities to appear before the court. Meanwhile, Cricket NSW has taken a note of the incident, strongly condemning Warner’s act, but has also forwarded their support to the 39-year-old.
Cricket NSW has stated that the association is fully aware of the fact that Warner had been caught drunk driving and that he has been arrested as well. However, the association wants to give Warner their full support during this tough phase, where they wish to take time to educate him and all the NSW players regarding the importance of safety measures while driving.
“Cricket NSW is aware of an alleged drink driving incident involving Sydney Thunder BBL captain David Warner on Saturday night, including charges laid by NSW Police,” the association said in a statement on Wednesday, April 08.
“Cricket NSW is a strong advocate of safe driving, including avoiding drink driving, and takes incidents of this nature very seriously. David is aware of the seriousness of these allegations. We will support him through the upcoming process and work together on further educating him and all players on the importance of safe driving,” Lee Germon, the CEO at Cricket NSW said in an official statement.
For the unversed, Warner is captaining Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. Under his leadership, the Kings have managed to secure wins in all the three matches they have played so far. Warner has been decently impressive with the bat, scoring 93 in his three outings, which also includes a half-century. He has been striking the ball at a rate close to 140, which is working in Karachi’s favour.
Currently, it remains unsure whether he will be able to fully take part in the remainder of the 20-over tournament in Pakistan, as legal proceedings may ask him to be available back home.
