Dehradun : SPIC MACAY Uttarakhand, brought an engaging theatrical experience for the students of Purkal Youth Development Society, with the staging of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Kamdev Ka Apna Basant Ritu Ka Sapna” by the renowned Naya Theatre. The program was also held at various other venues including IIT Roorkee, Mussoorie International School, THDC Rishikesh, and Swami Rama Himalayan University, Jollygrant.
Founded in 1959 by legendary theatre maestro Habib Tanvir, Naya Theatre is celebrated for its distinctive blend of folk traditions and contemporary theatre, with iconic productions such as Charandas Chor and Agra Bazaar to its credit.
Carrying forward this legacy, the group is now led by director Ramchandra Singh, who continues to innovate within this unique theatrical style.
The play, an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, unfolds a magical tale of Oberon and Titania, whose conflict leads to a series of humorous and whimsical events orchestrated by the mischievous Puck, blending romance, fantasy, and rustic charm into a delightful theatrical experience.
The performance at various institutions witnessed an enthusiastic response from the audience, particularly students, who were captivated by the vibrant storytelling and powerful performances.
The production featured a talented ensemble of artists including Ramchandra Singh, Dhannu Lal Sinha, Amar Singh Gandharva, Swaraj Shyam, Ritesh Pushe, Imran Ali, Satish Vyam, Neeraj Shyam, Ankur Rao Suryawanshi, Manni Kumar, Ram Sharma, Prakash Meena, Priyanka Sharma, Priyamvada Sinha, Payal Singh, Radhika Gandharv, Baby Shivanya Chauhan, Sheetal Ghuge, Vinod Tekam, Angad Ghete, and Ashwini Mishra.
Through such initiatives, SPIC MACAY continues to promote India’s rich cultural heritage among the youth, creating meaningful engagement with classical and traditional art forms.
