‘Explore different sports early’ – MS Dhoni’s advice to youngsters | CricTracker

Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni has shared the importance of switching off from one’s routine ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The 44-year-old wicketkeeper-batter shared how riding motorcycles and playing sports outside of cricket helps him recharge from his day-to-day schedule. He also advised today’s generation to take up different sports and activities to find out what suits them the most.

“It is very important to switch on and switch off. For me, riding bikes or playing sports like badminton and padel helps me recharge. I also feel students should explore different sports early, because unless you try something, you will never know what you are naturally good at,” MS Dhoni said during ALLEN Online’s student conversation series “Rise to the Top”.

It is no sectret that Dhoni loves to ride motorcycles. The CSK star has been seen flaunting his collection of bikes all over his hometown of Ranchi in Jharkhand.

The former captain, however, was caught in hot waters recently when the Ranchi Police issued him with an e-challan after his vehicle was caught overspeeding and violating traffic norms. Dhoni was fined INR 1,000 under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

At the age of 44, Dhoni still forms part of the CSK squad ahead of the 2026 IPL, despite question marks surrounding the number of games he will feature in this time around.

CSK have already secured the services of Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals after trading him in and letting Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja go the other way. The India opener can easily slot in as the wicketkeeper-batter in place of Dhoni in the playing XI.

Dhoni played 14 games last time around and captained as well after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury ruled him out. He scored 196 runs in the season, scoring at a strike-rate of 135.17. However, with no captaincy burden this time around, the CSK legend should be able to play with a lot more freedom coming down the order.
