10th Foundation Day of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun Celebrated
The 10th Foundation Day of the Regional Science Centre (RSC), Dehradun was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 3rd February 2026 at the RSC campus, Dehradun. The programme marked a significant milestone in the journey of the Regional Science Centre towards promoting science education and scientific temperament among students and the general public.
The program begins with the welcome by center in-charge Dr. Piyush Joshi, he presented the progress of the center in last year and decade in a nut shell. He also updates audience with the new innovation and activities of the center. On this occasion Prof. Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST, congratulated the officials and staff of UCOST and RSC, Dehradun for their dedicated efforts and contributions in the successful journey of the Centre over the past ten years. Prof. Pant said that Uttarakhand will have its own Science City in the coming years.
He also highlighted the science education initiatives of UCOST, including establishment of science centers in various districts, scientific workshops, skill development trainings, STEM education programmes, Vigyaan Radio and several other outreach activities. During the programme, the Annual Calendar, Diary, Brochures and Annual Report of RSC, Dehradun were formally inaugurated. Dr. Piyush Goel, Emeritus Scientist, UCOST, delivered al talk on emerging scientific and technological advancements and new research areas in science and technology.
Dr. D. P. Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST, presented a lecture on the Biodiversity of the Himalayan Region, emphasizing its ecological significance and conservation challenges. Shri G. S. Rautela, Advisor, Science City, delivered a talk on the Pillars of Education, focusing on career opportunities and pathways to professional success.
He also conducted live science demonstrations on various scientific principles, making the session highly interactive and engaging for students. Shri Vinod Ojha, Emeritus Scientist, UCOST, delivered a talk on “Identifying One’s Personality for Career Selection through the Indian Knowledge System”, offering valuable insights to students. During the program, students interacted with scientists from UCOST, discussing their academic challenges and queries. Today RSC, Dehradun also organized an open day for visitors, encouraging public participation. More than 200 students from Dolphin PG College, Hill Grove School Jhajra and Swaraswati Vidhya Mandir, Manduwala actively participated in the event.
Scientists, staff of RSC, from UCOST and experts from various organizations participated in the program. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Piyush Joshi, In-charge, Regional Science Centre, Dehradun, who delivers the vote of thanks to all the participants present during the program.
