The Warli Painting is mostly done by the Indian indigenous people, who live in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of the Thane district, parts of Nashik and Dhule (Maharashtra), Valsad (Gujarat). They have their own beliefs and their traditions, as well as customs. The Warlis speak an unwritten Warli language which belong to the southern Part of the Sanskrit, Marathi and Gujarati word Language.

The word Warli is derived from the word “warla”, which means ‘piece of land’ or ‘field’. The Warlis people speak an unwritten Warli language which belong to the southern zone of the Indo-Aryan language, and other languages like Sanskrit, Marathi and Gujarati also.

The wall paintings are done only for special occasions such as weddings.
