RSC Dehradun celebrated International Museum Day

The Regional science center celebrated International Museum Day (18 May) on the theme ‘Power of Museums’. On the occasion, center organized an online popular lecture and day long science demonstration activities for the visitors.

In the online program, the chief guest Karen M Lee, Director, Programs and Partnerships, National Park Foundation, Washington D.C. delivered her keynote speech on “Times of turmoil- building museum and park inclusivity through the humanities”. She talked on importance of museums and public parks in creating social-emotional wellness and helping society to cope-up with various conflicts, stress and tensions. She also said that museums has capacity to transform society, build communities, support in bringing sustainability, innovate using technology for better communication and knowledge dissemination.

She also emphasized that museum can change lives, trigger development, create economic activities at societal level and at personal level, they help in career choices, inspire, interest & curiosity, develop cultural sensitivity in society. She also emphasized to cope-up and mitigate the impact of recent pandemic, climate change and other threats. Earlier, Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General in his welcome speech said that State S&T Council is working persistently towards developing science museums in the state and also an ambitious resource Science City.

Sri GS Rautela, Advisor Science City Dehradun project coordinated the program and in his brief note he said that experience sharing among museums personals around the globe is inevitable. He added that museums are centers of cultural integrity and knowledge dissemination, which need to be dynamic institutions. Outreach, engagement, participation, interactivity, experiential and technology all that need to be woven into the story, the museum is planning to tell. Dr Kailash N. Bhardwaj expressed vote of thanks to experts and participants. He also invoked people to visit science center. More than 60 participants attended the program.
