Renowned Hindustani Vocalist Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar enthralls music lovers

 SPIC MACAY organized a series of Lecture demonstrations on Hindustani Vocal music by the renowned Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar at DPSG Dehradun and Himjyoti School today. The circuit saw a large gathering of music lovers and enthusiasts, who were treated to soulful renditions and insightful commentary by the celebrated artist.

Accompanied by Sumit Mishra on the harmonium and Santosh Telurkar on the tabla, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar captivated the audience with his powerful and emotive voice. Drawing from his decades of experience and training under some of the greatest musicians of our time, Panshikar ji shared his knowledge and insights into the nuances of Hindustani classical music.

During his performances, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar began with a short alap and went on to perform ‘Sahela Re’, a famous composition of Kishori Amonkar Ji in Raga Bhoop set to ada teen taal. He then performed a Shabadh composed by Guru Nanak Dev and concluded with the famous bhajan ‘Vaishnav Janato’ popularized by Gandhi Ji.

He performed a composition in Raga Todi set to teen taal in Vilambit tempo followed by two popular bhajans ‘Paayoji maine’, a Mira bhajan, and ‘Baje re muraliya’, popularized by Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.

A prolific performer and composer, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar has won numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of Indian classical music. He is the son of the renowned Thespian Prabhakar Panshikar and began his training under Shri Vasantrao Kulkarni before spending twenty years under the tutelage of the legendary Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar ji.

The Lecture Demonstration at DPSG Dehradun and Himjyoti School was part of a larger circuit that saw Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar perform at several other venues, including Maples Academy, Hari Om Saraswati PG College, Moravian Institute, NIEPVD, Dolphin Institute, and LBSNAA. The program was supported by the SRF Foundation.

The audience was spellbound by the artist’s mastery of the intricate nuances of Indian classical music and his ability to effortlessly blend traditional compositions with modern-day favorites. It was a truly unforgettable experience for all those who were lucky enough to witness it.
