New Delhi: Raaj Shaandilyaa returned in 2023 with ‘Dream Girl 2’, after the success of 2019’s ‘Dream Girl’. Released on Friday, August 25, 2023, ‘Dream Girl 2,’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday, was met with much praise. The release of this film coincides with the box office success of two other big cinematic offerings: Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2.’ Although ‘Dream Girl 2’ was met with lukewarm reviews from reviewers, the film managed to bring a decent number at the box office.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Dream Girl 2’ made a respectable sum on its first day in theatres. The Indian box office has been on an upward trajectory over the last several months, suggesting a recovery after the pandemic.
Similar to the opening day earnings of OMG 2 (Rs 10.26 crore), Satyaprem Ki Katha (Rs 9.25 crore), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11 crore), ‘Dream Girl 2’ earned Rs 9.70 crore on its opening day.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that on Friday, Dream Girl 2 had an overall Hindi occupancy of 29.51%.
After ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’, ‘Anek’, ‘Doctor G’, and ‘An Action Hero’ all bombed at the movie office, Ayushmann is hoping for a major financial success with ‘Dream Girl 2’.
In addition to Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday, the film also features Paresh Rawal, Vijay Raaz, Annu Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav, Manjot Singh, and Seema Pahwa.
As per ABPLive review of the movie: “‘Dream Girl’, the first film Raaj Shaandilyaa directed in 2019, introduced an engaging storyline to the audience, and they readily embraced it despite its numerous shortcomings. Even though Khurrana pushes extremely hard to bring out emotions in the scenes (and it shows), it sometimes feels as though he himself lacks faith in his character. In a nutshell, if anyone plans on making a remake of Aunty No. 1, we have already got it in the guise of ‘Dream Girl 2’.”
