‘Last 5 Years Were All About Reform, Perform, Transform’: PM Modi In Closing Lok Sabha Address

New Delhi: In his last address to the Lok Sabha at the closing of the Budget Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pledged to carry forward with the agenda of “reform, perform and transform” if voted back in the upcoming general elections.

“These five years of our governance were marked by our continued commitment to reform, perform and transform. Seldom does reform and perform take place at the same time but we saw it happen right in front of our eyes. People across the country too experienced this during the last five years of our governance and as I stand here before you today, I am convinced that my fellow countrymen will continue to support and bless us in the 18th Lok Sabha,” PM Modi said.

Claiming “97% productivity” in the 17th Lok Sabha, PM Modi said that the “country will elect the 18th Lok Sabha with the resolve to help us accomplish more than 100% productivity.”

Underlining the key takeaways of the BJP-led NDA rule over the last five years, PM Modi hailed the historic passage of the new criminal laws, replacing those under the age-old Indian Penal Code (IPC) that were formulated during the British rule.

“Several generations lived under the IPC for 75 years but the future generations will be governed by the reformed criminal laws under the Nyay Sanhita. The passage of the landmark new criminal code marks the country’s transition to true democracy,” PM Modi said.

Veering to the landmark abrogation of the special constitutional privileges to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, PM Modi said, “For decades, people of Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of social justice. Today, we are happy to say that we were able to bring social justice to the people of the erstwhile state in line with our commitment. Terrorism was like a thorn, not just in the flesh of Jammu and Kashmir, but the entire country. The bullets that rang out in the Valley inflicted open wounds on the country’s conscience. However, we brought stringent laws to crack down on the menace of terrorism.”

Taking a swipe at the Opposition amid desertions and growing chaos in the I.N.D.I.A bloc, PM Modi said, “The Lok Sabha elections are not very far and a few may be nervous as the polls near. However, elections are a cornerstone of our democracy and we are ready to take part in it. I believe that the upcoming elections will further enrich our democratic traditions and enhance the country’s pride globally.”

On the Ram Temple resolution in the House, PM Modi said, “The passage of the resolution in the Lok Sabha will enable our future generations to take pride in the country’s heritage and traditions.”

On the successful hosting of the G20 Summit last year under India’s presidency, PM Modi said, “We were privileged to have received the opportunity to host the G20 under our presidency. It was huge honour for our country and people. Every state demonstrated their cultural identities and India’s capability before the global audience through G20 events.”
