Former India batter Gautam Gambhir stated that Australia are “vulnerable” after the Pat Cummins-led side advances to the 2023 ODI World Cup final against India with a win over South Africa in the semifinal. The high-octane clash will be contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
The 42-year-old believes that India will be confident facing the five-time champions in the summit clash. The Men in Blue secured their spot in the final after a convincing 70-run win over New Zealand in Mumbai.
“Don’t think Australia brought their A-game in the semi-final. Australia are still very vulnerable, but yes, they know how to win these knockout games. India will have to play their A-game in the final, which they have been playing since the last 10 matches. India are going to be very confident facing Australia in Ahmedabad,” Gambhir said on Star Sports after Australia’s semifinal match.
Australia beat South Africa by three wickets in semifinal
Speaking of the second semifinal, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. Temba Bavuma’s decision backfired as they lost two wickets in the first 10 overs.
When South Africa were reeling at 24/4, David Miller led the charge and scored a crucial century to help his side post 212 runs. Miller hit 101 off 116, including eight boundaries and five maximums. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were the pick of bowlers, claiming three-wicket hauls each, while Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head got two scalps each.
Australia also made a nervous start as they lost two wickets in the first 10 overs after David Warner and Travis Head scored quick runs. However, Head spearheaded Australia’s innings, scoring a 48-ball 62-run knock as they chased down the target in 47.2 overs in the rain-marred clash. Gerald Coetzee and Tabraiz Shamsi picked up two wickets each for the Proteas.
