Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed to undergo medical assessments in Australia ahead of Bangladesh’s Test tour

Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed to undergo medical assessments in Australia ahead of Bangladesh’s Test tour

Bangladesh pacers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed are set to travel to Australia on Tuesday, July 28, for detailed medical assessments as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continues to monitor the fitness of its frontline fast bowlers. The duo will be accompanied by national team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam, a BCB official confirmed.

Nahid has already been ruled out of Bangladesh’s upcoming Test tour of Australia after suffering a left-side strain during the second T20I against Zimbabwe earlier this month. However, his visit to Australia is reportedly unrelated to that injury and is instead aimed at evaluating a long-standing shinbone issue that has troubled him throughout his career.

According to a BCB official, Nahid has been managing pain in both his shins for several years, prompting the board to seek expert medical advice from a lower-limb specialist in Australia.

“Nahid Rana from his early days is suffering with shinbone pain in his two legs and he is playing by managing it. We earlier planned that if we travel to Australia or England we would assess his shinbone issues by sitting with a lower-limb specialist,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The official further clarified that the visit is not linked to the side strain that ruled Nahid out of the Australia series.

“As part of that plan he is travelling to Australia to sit with a shinbone specialist but he is not travelling there for side-strain issues because his shinbone pain is a chronic injury,” he said.

Meanwhile, Taskin’s trip to Australia is focused on his persistent ankle problem rather than any shoulder-related concern. Although the experienced fast bowler has been included in Bangladesh’s squad for the opening Test, the BCB wants further clarity on the condition of his ankle, which has troubled him at different stages of his career.

“Taskin is visiting for his ankle issue that he sustained earlier at different points of his career and we want to have a third opinion regarding its status,” he said.

Bangladesh dealing with multiple injury concerns

Bangladesh have been hit by several injury setbacks ahead of their historic Test tour of Australia, making squad selection a difficult task for the selectors.

Chief selector Habibul Bashar admitted that the growing injury list delayed the announcement of the 15-member squad.

Nahid has already been ruled out of the tour, while fellow pacer Shoriful Islam will miss the first Test as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has also been sidelined for the series opener due to a calf injury.

Speaking after Bangladesh announced their squad on Sunday, Habibul acknowledged the challenges faced by the selection committee.

“We actually wanted to announce the squad almost weeks ago,” Habibul said on Monday after the historic Australia tour squad was announced.
