Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath participated in the concluding programme of Gyan Kumbh 2018, organized jointly by Uttarakhand Government and Patanjali Yogpeeth at Patanjali University, Haridwar on Sunday. Addressing the programme, Mr. Yogi Adityanath said that we should be proud of our Indian knowledge. He said that we do not have to forget our culture and tradition. India had given the world the knowledge of the laws of motion, the value of zero, decimal, pi etc. centuries ago. We must link our culture and knowledge to our curriculum in some form.

In the first session of the second day of “Gyan Kumbh 2018” being organized at Patanjali University, Haridwar, discussions were held on the subject of “Higher Education and Indian Knowledge Tradition”. The session was chaired by National Coordinator of Sanskriti Utthan Nyas Dr. Atul Kothari.

Dr. Nilimb Tripathi of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic University said that we have to end the monotony from our curriculum. The teacher also needs to keep learning constantly. We also need to link spirituality to higher education.

Swamy Ramdev said that discrimination in education should be abolished. Universities need to understand the competence of their students. It is necessary for the universities to create such a climate that people from abroad will come to get education in India.

Under the theme “Innovation Research and Quality Improvement” in the second session of the second day, it was stressed about linking Indian knowledge with Indian tradition. Presiding over the session, UGC President Prof. D.P. Singh said that along with the problems of social and environmental issues, universities should also promote surveys and research on local problems as well. Also, the amount being spent in research and innovation in the budget should also be increased. Researchers should be sent to villages for research work.

Under the session, the Vice Chancellors and teachers, who came from different universities, expressed their views. It was told that there is a need to give special attention to innovation as well as linking education with social concerns. VCs should encourage researchers to research new subjects in their respective universities. Additionally, students should be given projects for the original survey.

Minister of Higher Education, Uttarakhand, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, said that the education of Yoga and Vedas in Sanskrit University will be made compulsory. Professor will also be honoured on September 5. A 3-day training camp will be organized to include the Indian knowledge tradition in its course. An MoU will be signed for the research work by 100 poor children with the help of Patanjali Yogpeeth. Study centers will be set up for conservation and promotion of Garhwali and Kumaoni language.
