Twitter Reactions: All-round show from Hayley Matthews leads Mumbai Indians Women to thumping win in Eliminator

The Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League 2025 between Mumbai Indians Women and Gujarat Giants Women was clinched by the former by 47 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday, March 13. This marked their supreme dominance over the Gujarat outfit; increasing their win streak by one more to make it 7-0 in the favour of Mumbai.

Gujarat had actually had a good start to the powerplay, limiting Mumbai to only 37. Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt led the charge for the hosts from that point onwards. Their sensational 133-run stand for the second wicket put Mumbai in a dominant position. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur provided a sparkling finish to the innings after the aforementioed overseas players scored 77 each. Mumbai ended up on 213/4 at the end of 20 overs.

On the bowling front, Kashvee Gautam was the pick of the bowlers from the opposition. She ended up conceding only 30 runs in her four-over quota. Playing her first game of the season, Danielle Gibson proved expensive despite picking up two wickets. Priya Mishra did not complete her full quota, travelling around the park wicketless in three overs.

The tourists did not have a lot to show as far as the run-chase was considered. They lost a couple of additional wickets as compared to Mumbai in their share of the first six overs, which set them back for the game. Gibson top-scored with 34. However, she never really looked fully at ease during her time in the middle. Lower down the order, Phoebe Litchfield and Bharti Fulmali contributed with 31 and 30 off 20 balls each, but that was about it.

The Mumbai bowlers were exceptional. Amelia Kerr, in particular, stood out with 2/28 in her four-over spell. Matthews starred with the ball too, delivering a truly well-rounded performance from her end. She was rightfully adjudged the Player of the Match for her all-round display, as Mumbai marched into the final for the second time in three years.

3 seasons. 3 playoffs. 2nd finals. MI, The GOAT franchise for a reason🙌🏻

@cricket_in_dna This after losing the first match only because of Gayathri Venugopalan’s incompetent umpiring. Had to make the final the hard way otherwise it would have been a direct entry for Mumbai Indians women into the final.
