President Donald Trump, who likes to talk to the sinister crowd, is ready to give the UN General Assembly a pre-recorded address as he grapples with the coronovirus epidemic, relations between the US and China, and ongoing threats from North Korea and Iran  Has been – all during a heated campaign for re-election.

Trump told reporters on Monday that he would have a ‘strong message’ for China, where the first cases of covid-19 were reported, but did not extend further to Tuesday’s address.  Earlier in his administration, Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Florida club, but now the two leaders are exchanging angry words over trade.

The administration is sloganing the Chinese Communist Party to deal with covid-19, electoral arbitration, espionage in the United States and pedaling worldwide.

Trump is not popular in the United Nations, and this year his speech comes at a time when members of the United Nations are pushing back against Washington.  On Monday, Trump announced that all UN sanctions against Iran had been repealed, a move that most of the rest of the world disapproves as illegal.

Trump’s statement came shortly after he signed an executive order detailing how the US would implement a ‘snapback’ of the sanctions.  He said, “My action today sends a clear message to the Iranian regime and international community people who refuse to stand with Iran.”

The US said it was re-enforcing sanctions on Iran to be in non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the global powers.  But in 2018 Trump pulled out of the deal in which Iran agreed to stop its nuclear program in exchange for a billion-dollar ban.

Some UN member states believe the US has the legal authority to reinstate sanctions as Trump withdrew from the agreement.  The US argues that it has the right to do so as the original partner and council member in the deal.

The White House has not previewed its UN speech, but Trump hoped they would highlight the US agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.  Historical agreements are melting relations between the Jewish state and the Arab nations as a pushback against Iran.

The president is likely to take the credit for reducing the burden on the coalition to spend 2% of its GDP for economic cooperation between Serbia and Kosovo and to pressurize NATO nations.

He may also have words for Kim Jong Un of North Korea.  In 2017, Trump told the U.N. that he was bringing a ‘message of peace’, but then said that if America were forced to defend themselves against Kim, we would have the power to destroy North Korea completely  There will be no other option.  He called Kim a ‘rocket man’, but has met with him thrice since, although North Korea has not taken any steps to drop its nuclear weapons.

Trump has tampered with multilateral organizations throughout his presidency, although his allies say they are not against all multilateral groups, only those that are not effective.  After covid-19 took over, Trump called for support from the United Nations World Health Organization, saying it was too much for China.
