Dehradun: The Aryan School held a mock parliamentary debate to help students understand how the Indian Parliament works. It was organised by the Political Science Department of the school.
The Judge for the event was Tuhin Dasgupta, General Manager of The Aryan School and an expert in Humanities and Social Science. He appreciated the students and encouraged them to learn more about public matters.
Students played the roles of members of the ruling party BJP and the opposition party Congress. The event had two parts — Zero Hour and the Debate.
During Zero Hour, some students gave speeches as famous leaders like Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Amit Shah, and Nirmala Sitharaman.
In the Debate session, students discussed topics such as tax laws, the Waqf Board, the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Manipur issue, and debt clearance. All students spoke clearly and respectfully.
The results were announced during the culmination of the event. In Group 1, the first position for the Main Character was awarded to Ashmit Singh. In Group 2, Yash Pathak secured the first position among Debaters, followed by Rushil Narang in second place and Manya Mittal in third. Among the houses, Atharva House stood first, Sama House came second, Rig House secured the third position, and Yajur House stood fourth.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal B. Das Gupta said, “The event helped students learn about the importance of discussion, law-making, and teamwork in a democracy. It gave students a chance to speak, listen, and understand the working of the Indian Parliament.”
