The very concept and the vision of Renu D. Singh is UNIQUE as well as novel in nature. To think about women empowerment in a patriarchal society of India rather makes it further impossible to convince the general public/community/society to accept the victim of Sexual violence as normal woman as RAPE is always connected to the character of woman. Being raped is a bigger Crime than to rape someone, therefore Rapist is always benefited by the social gaps and gender discrimination.

Last three decades of India were the nightmare years to Get the justice delivered to the victims of sexual violence, the working environment of the police and the judiciary was too hostile for victims due to the lack of sensitivity and gender bias at all levels, media was also more into making of red headlines with sexually painted stories of sex and Rape.

Renu D. Singh consistently and pro actively did phenomenal task of Police Reform and Judicial reform by interacting with state machinery and developed the a lot of material / primers/ for general legal awareness for both common citizens and police personnel. Renu D. Singh had to face tremendous pressure from all sides to not to work for a tabooed kind of field. Her capacity as an advocate/ legal professional was challenged by people as to why she does not sit in the court and earn like any other lawyer or advocate.

This is a remarkable point to be made that despite having all the strengths and capability to practice and earn enormous wealth and live a comfortable life Renu D. Singh rather made a free choice to work and dedicate her legal degree and wisdom to the selfless service of poor, helpless and oppressed women of India.

This indeed is a praiseworthy fact about Renu D. Singh that she established her NGO and sustained it without any funding from any sources instead she mobilized likeminded citizens to work with her voluntarily and generated funds by her own hard-work as an efficient master trainer of master trainers in the field of Gender Law and Human Rights rendering her expert services to various Ministries and paramilitary forces.

Being polyglot she gave her services to corporate sector and translated many manuals in various languages without any credits. Renu D. Singh has dedicated 38 years of her life fighting against all odds and taboos faced by the survivors of sexual violence. It was never so easy to speak about ‘RAPE’ and fight tirelessly for the justice of Rape Victim in India.

Accepting a Rape Victim / Survivor as a strong woman and legal professional in the mainstream civil society is very tough task; but this is what the Renu D. Singh took up as challenge. Society is far from understanding ‘RAPE’ as a crime.

Instead they connect it with the character of the victim and the person who come to her support are the worst ostracized – working for rape victim means becoming the soft target of rapists and the powerful criminals who commit endless crimes on people supporting rape victims, such as:  Renu D. Singh was attacked many times by the criminals, She was targeted by paid media and was humiliated and she has escaped acid attacks too.

Hats off to the efforts and mission of one and only Renu D Singh, the lady on a mission.
