Maharashtra Yavatmal Murder: A gruesome murder mystery that began with the discovery of a burnt body in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal has been cracked with the help of an underwear and a shirt. On May 15, police found the body of a school teacher in the Chousala forest, and intensified their investigation.
The 32-year-old teacher, Shantanu Arvind Deshmukh, was murdered by his wife, Nidhi Deshmukh, who is a principal at the same school. Nidhi had allegedly poisoned Shantanu and later burned his body with the help of three minor students.
The couple worked at Sunrise English Medium School. They had a love marriage and lived separately from their families.
Shantanu had been missing since the evening of May 13. After a partially burned body was found in the forest, police began questioning his friends. A photo taken on May 13, recovered from a friend’s mobile phone, showed Shantanu wearing a shirt identical to the one found at the scene. A torn sleeve and a button matched the remains, leading to his identification.
Principal Poisoned Husband With Spiked Juice
The investigation revealed that Nidhi was allegedly disturbed by Shantanu’s alcohol addiction and wanted to get rid of him. According to the police, “She searched online and prepared a poisonous juice, which she gave him while he was drunk. He died after consuming it.”
Once he died, she enlisted the help of three underage students from the same school and transported the body to the forest in the early hours of May 14 and set it on fire.
How An Underwear Helped Police
Initially, Nidhi misled the police during questioning. However, police grew suspicious after they found an undergarment at her house that matched the one on the body. Under mounting pressure, she finally confessed to committing the crime.
“She admitted to killing her husband and burning the body with help from students,” a police official confirmed. The three minors involved in disposing of the body have been detained and are currently in police custody.
