Mysore painting is an important style of painting when it comes to classical South Indian paintings. As the name suggest, it originated in the town of Mysore located in Karnataka. These paintings are known for their elegance, and muted colours. The Mysore painting themes for most of these paintings are Hindu Gods and Goddesses. In these modern times, these paintings have become a much sought after souvenir during festive occasions in South India.

The process of making a Mysore painting has many stages. First stage involves making of a rough sketch of the image on their bases. The base consists of cartridge paper past on a wooden base. And paste made of Zinc oxide and Arabic gum is made called – gesso paste. With the help of a thin brush all the jewellery and or the arch which have relief are painted over to give a slightly raised effectful of carving.

Then this painting is allowed to dry. On the painting, a thin gold foil is pasted. And the rest of the drawing is then painted using water colours.
