In a big step towards digital convenience and personal privacy, the Indian government has launched a brand-new Aadhaar app that lets users verify and share their Aadhaar details digitally — no need to carry physical cards or hand over photocopies anymore. The app was officially introduced by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Describing the app as a “smart leap” in digital innovation, Vaishnaw said it aims to make Aadhaar verification quicker, easier, and much more secure. “New Aadhaar App, Face ID authentication via mobile app. No physical card, no photocopies,” he shared in a video message on X (formerly Twitter).
“Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information,” he said.
The idea behind the app is simple: users have full control over their data. They can choose to share only what’s necessary, and always with their consent — all through a secure digital process.
One of the standout features? Face ID authentication. It adds an extra layer of security and makes the whole experience seamless. Think of it like UPI — but for Aadhaar verification.
The app, currently in its beta stage, has been built with strong privacy protections. Your information is securely stored and can’t be tampered with, edited, or misused. And importantly, nothing gets shared without your permission.
Calling Aadhaar the “foundation” of several government services, Vaishnaw also spoke about the growing role of Artificial Intelligence and digital public infrastructure (DPI) in shaping India’s tech-forward future. He invited stakeholders to come forward with ideas on how AI and DPI can work together — while keeping privacy front and centre.
