Doon boy, Divyam, gets Excellent Indian Classical Dancer Award

At the All India Classical Dance Festival at Mysore where Divyam Roy, of Dehradun, was honoured with an Excellent Indian Classical Dancer Award, at Jaganmohan Palace, Mysore, Karnataka.

Divyam Roy started learning dance at a very young age. As a child he use to get inspired by the the TV serial show Om Namah Shivay “Shiva Tandava Dance”. He started learning khathak (Jaipur style) dance from Guru Khathak mam, Scholars Home, Dehradun.  When he was in Class III, he started performing in school programs, theater and received many prizes. He also performed with Dr Nishank Pokhariyal’s  daughter Arushi pokhriyal, on the diamond jublie of my school function on Krishna Leela.

After wardsDivyam moved to Rishikesh for 1 year into learn dance from Krishna Biswas. From her, he learned the basics of Rabindra Nritya ND Gaudiya classical folk dance of Bengal. Later he moved back to Dehradun and again I started learning khathak in Lukhnow Gharana style from the gurus of Bhatkhande for several years.

But the main dream was to learn Bharatanatyam. So when he was in Class 10, he  met a very renowned guru of Bharatanatyam, Veena Aggarwal mam who is a dicipile of guru “Jayshree Rajagolpan ” a very well know Bharatanatyam Guru. He got trained under her more than 3 years. But today, he has a total 5 years of experience in Bharatnatyam. 

Currently, Divyam Roy is studying Bachelor’s in Fashion and Textiles and at the same time learning Kuchipudi from Guru Vyjayantikashi and Prateeksha Kashi. He is also preparing for visharad in Bhartanatyam under Guru Sunita Nair.
