Madhya Pradesh Health and Medical Education Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel’s visit to the ‘Quality Restaurant’ located in the City Center area of Gwalior has sparked political controversy after he allegedly got upset over not being provided a table and ended up entering the kitchen.
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, further intensifying the political debate. However, the minister clarified, saying, “Inspection is my working style, and serving the public is my priority.” When asked about the incident, he remarked, “Do you really think a minister wouldn’t be offered a seat?”
Reports indicated that Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel had arrived at the restaurant for dinner after attending a private event. At the time, the restaurant was crowded, and the staff could not immediately arrange a table for him. The restaurant owner said the minister was asked to sit on the upper floor, but he got angry and proceeded directly to the kitchen along with his staff.
Eyewitnesses clarified that an argument broke out between the minister’s supporters and the restaurant staff, which soon escalated into a physical altercation. A team from the Food Department also arrived at the scene afterward and collected food samples from the restaurant.
In a statement to the media, Minister Patel said, “After inspecting hospitals and ambulances, I visited the Quality Restaurant for a food inspection. The restaurant staff misbehaved with me. If this is how they treat a minister, imagine the treatment given to common citizens and employees.”
Minister Assault Staff
The restaurant operator stated that a person claimed to be a minister. When he was informed that all ground-floor seats were booked and arrangements were available on the upper floor, he became agitated and entered the kitchen with his supporters. The operator alleged that those accompanying the minister assaulted the staff.
Congress leader Umang Singhar strongly criticised the incident, saying, “Farmers in Madhya Pradesh stand in long queues for fertiliser without government concern. But when a minister doesn’t get a table at a hotel, the entire administration swings into action, assaults the restaurant staff, and even calls food safety officers. Is this what they call ‘public service’? BJP ministers are drunk on power.”
Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress also took a dig at Narendra Shivaji Patel in a post on X, saying, “Sometimes the son misbehaves with the police and sometimes the minister behaves arrogantly in a restaurant! In the BJP government, minister Narendra Shivaji Patel is running more schools of bullying than departments! Intoxicated by the arrogance of power, restaurant owners are threatened to be shut down, sampling is done at night! @DrMohanYadav51 Yes, Have you given your ministers the license to indulge in hooliganism and misbehave with the public along with the oath?”
