There seems to be no respite from heat for Delhi as the India Meteorological Department has forecast that the temperature is expected to rise further, with the mercury expected to soar beyond 45degres Celsius today and tomorrow (June 10).

The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for “hot and humid” conditions, which are expected to persist across the city for at least four more days.

IMD Scientist Akhil Srivastava said: “If we talk about Northwest India, then for the next four days, most of the subdivisions—especially in the plains—are likely to experience heatwave conditions. In Delhi NCR, the temp is expected to rise above 45°C today and tomorrow, creating heatwave conditions in isolated places. A yellow alert has been issued for the region.”

The day today began with a temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius early morning, signaling a hot and uncomfortable day ahead. The IMD predicted very hot weather for the national capital on Monday, with mercury reaching 44 degrees Celsius.

Strong surface winds were also predicted during the day, though they are unlikely to provide any comfort from the scorching heat. At 8:30 AM, the humidity levels were recorded at 48 per cent, which the weather department said could add to the discomfort throughout the day.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday had reached 42.1 degrees Celsius, which was the highest recorded so far this June.

IMD Sounds Red Alert In West Rajasthan For Severe Heatwave

The IMD Scientist further said that severe heatwave conditions are developing in West Rajasthan, and that a red alert has been issued considering the rise in night temp as well and prevailing warm night conditions.

An orange alert has been sounded in East Rajasthan due to both heatwave and warm night conditions. Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are also under orange alert, while a yellow alert has been issued for the next three in Jammu and Kashmir due to rising temperature. North Madhya Pradesh is also under a yellow alert for heatwave conditions, the IMD Scientist added.
