Two weeks after a couple from Madhya Pradesh on honeymoon trip went missing in Meghalaya, the police managed to solve the mystery behind the missing wife and her dead husband.
Meghalaya Police on Sunday managed to trace the missing wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was missing even as the body of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was found in a gorge on June 2.
Sonam surrendered before the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, while three other assailants were arrested in overnight raids, Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang said.

Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed by men, hired by his wife, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, police said.
Reacting over the murder mystery of the Indore man, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that some people were painting Meghalaya in a bad light and that they should apologise.
Calling the negative portrayal of Meghalaya ‘unfortunate’, the CM said that media houses were speculating and branding Meghalaya as unsafe and dangerous.
“People who have been painting the Northeast and Meghalaya in a bad light should apologise. They should apologise to the government, to the police, and to the people of Meghalaya. Not only did they paint a wrong picture, but they also maligned people,” Conrad Sangma said in an interview to The Indian Express.
“Without any basis or evidence, media houses were speculating and branding Meghalaya as unsafe and dangerous. This upset Meghalaya’s people a lot. But now, facts are out and it’s quite clear that people from outside the state were involved in the murder,” the chief minister added.
Meanwhile, influential Shillong-based civil society group CoMSO also demanded an apology from the family of Sonam, who was arrested in the murder case of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, alleging that they defamed the people of Meghalaya and tried to tarnish the image of a state dependent on tourism.
The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) chairman Roy Kupar Synrem alleged that Sonam’s family made calculated efforts to politicise a personal tragedy, exploit the press, and generate anti-Meghalaya sentiments nationwide.
He also renewed the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, maintaining that it would help in keeping a tab on people entering the state and regulate the flow of tourists, which would ensure greater security.
Meghalaya Police have arrested five people, including Sonam, in the murder of Raghuvanshi, who was killed while honeymooning in Sohra in the East Khasi Hills district.
Raghuvanshi and his wife went missing on May 23. His body was found in a gorge on June 2, while a search for his wife was underway. Sonam emerged in the early hours in UP’s Ghazipur and surrendered before the police as the investigators nabbed the others allegedly involved in the crime that shook the nation.
