A video clip purportedly showing Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia reprimanding state minister Jayanta Malla Baruah in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has gone viral, triggering sharp criticism from the Congress party.
The incident, confirmed by senior BJP leaders, took place at Bahjani in Assam’s Nalbari district on Sunday during the inauguration of a new Mandal office by Chief Minister Himanta. A party leader told news agency PTI that Saikia was initially not allowed entry into the newly inaugurated office while Himanta, Baruah and the Mandal president were already inside.
“This was not a government programme, but a party event. The state party chief should get the prime importance. I think the state president felt that he was not given the due respect, and that is why this incident happened,” the leader said, as quoted by PTI.
In the video that has now gone viral, Saikia is seen scolding Baruah, who is also the local MLA. He is heard instructing local BJP workers to remove the Mandal president from the location. Although his exact words are not fully audible, Saikia can be seen pointing fingers at Baruah and saying, “Your constituency… disrespect to the president in front of Himanta and others.” Following this, Himanta and others moved away from the scene and entered a room inside the office complex.
Reacting to the incident, Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah mocked the ruling party, posting on social media: “Ram Ram, rebellion on 1st Bohag (the first month of the Assamese new year)… SANGHI RAJ vs SYNDICATE RAJ… I always knew that, in BJP Assam, the Syndicate Sardars are facing a fightback from the RSS-loyalists.”
ৰাম ৰাম, পহিলা বহাগতে বিদ্ৰোহ!
SANGHI RAJ vs SYNDICATE RAJI always new that, in BJP Assam, the Syndicate Sardars are facing a fightback from the RSS-loyalists, but unfortunately the Godi Media is too afraid to show it. Therefore, while this shouting match is not a revelation,… pic.twitter.com/GFFEqxmHfs

Calling the confrontation unsurprising, Borah remarked, “Therefore, this shouting match is not a revelation.”
He further alleged, “Just see how the CM, who likes to show his courage and manliness by locking up ordinary people, journalists and Congress spokesmen, demurred in front of the BJP State President @DilipSaikia4Bjp.”
Tagging the Chief Minister, Borah added, “It was nice to see you lose your voice.” He went on to claim, “He (Himanta) always considered his chair more important than his self-respect and it is the latest evidence.”
Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia’s Post After Brawl
Meanwhile, Saikia, in a social media post following the incident, chose to focus on the inauguration, stating that “workers and offices are the backbone of the party, and the new space will empower the team to serve the people with even greater dedication and coordination.”
